BOOK 9
They’d been at it for hours. Ling, Brad, Cherry, and Buzz—four specialists who’d seen almost everything—stood around the projection table like they were about to call a séance. Holographic archives hovered in midair: old Guardian field logs, scrambled resonance maps, scraps of transmission so degraded you had to squint to believe in them. Nobody said it out loud, but they were all thinking the same thing.
If Sapphire really was alive, she wasn’t just hiding. She was waiting for something none of them could fake.
Ling
If Sapphire is hybrid—part Guardian, part something else—it would explain why she could maintain a stealth frequency so long.
Cherry
Exactly. Some of these early field reports reference a project called Transitional Receptors. It was meant to help Guardians pass unnoticed through human populations.
Brad
And she’s been hiding because she knows they’ll try to use her DNA to replicate that tech. If she surfaces, they’d take her apart molecule by molecule.
Across the room, Eve and Lisa stand in their own little bubble of reality.
Lisa
(quiet)
So… what do you think you were feeling… when I was playing pool? Lining up for a shot?
(beat)
You in the other reality said you wanted to spank me.
Eve lifts her eyebrows, patient but exasperated.
Eve
And what were you feeling… when you were bending over in such a provocative way?
If there was a sign on your bottom, what would it say?
The air between them crackles—somewhere between flirtation and inquiry.
Buzz
(reading aloud, ignoring them)
“Subject designated Sapphire exhibits persistent theta-wave resonance even in REM suppression states. No known Guardian has retained that capacity.”
Cherry
Which means… she’s always been able to slip detection. Even from her own people.
Lisa bites her lip, thinking.
Lisa
Maybe it would say… Come help me with this energy, I can’t contain it.
—or… Screw you, I have the upper hand, suckers!
Eve
(squinting)
This is important. We have to figure this out.
(serious)
Maybe separate what’s the kink… and what’s the secret sauce.
Ling
Sapphire didn’t just vanish. She was studying frequencies no one else could access. She could be listening right now.
Eve
But wait—the Oracle says I’m carrying the secret sauce, lady. So… it’s not in your butt.
Eve rests her hand on Lisa’s shoulder, sincere.
Eve
I’m sorry, Lisa. That must be hard for you to hear.
She turns and walks off. Lisa stands there, half-mortified.
Lisa
(raising her voice across the room)
You still didn’t tell me why you wanted to spank me!
The entire research team freezes. Ling slowly lifts his gaze from the hologram.
Ling
(slow blink)
…We’re working over here.
Lisa claps her hands over her face, groaning.
Eve returns, cradling a mug of tea. She takes a contemplative sip, sighs, and looks at Lisa.
Eve
Okay… hmm. Why did I want to spank you?
(gesturing vaguely)
This is stupid, Lisa. I’m a realist. I wanted to spank you because I have a kink. It’s complex. Let’s not reinvent quantum theory here.
Lisa
But you said you’re carrying the secret sauce. So… what’s not the kink about that situation?
Eve
(squinting into her tea)
Okay. You’re right. Let me think.
(pause)
Hmmm.
(very slow, like she’s discovering it out loud)
…I don’t know. Maybe what’s in you stirred the secret sauce in me.
(beat)
Or maybe…I transferred the secret sauce…to your butt.
Lisa
(smiling, triumphant)
So I was probably secretly—or subconsciously— was giving you the signal to transfer it.
Eve
(raising her cup in salute)
Aww, we were just kind of playing catch when we were horny.
You would carry it, then I would carry it.
Lisa
(grinning)
I’m glad it’s orgasmic. Because catch is boring.
Ling
(softly to Cherry about Lisa and Eve)
I don’t think our research archives ever prepared us for…this.
Cherry
(smiling)
Look how alive they are.
Ling
What do you see?
Cherry (softly, watching them):
I see their frequency together. I don’t know why I can see it. But it’s powerful.
Brad (nodding, voice low):
I’ve always seen it too. But it seems like it’s getting stronger. Ling you can’t see it.
Ling (moment of honesty)
I now understand how their cloaking device worked. Because of their…what shall I say, their manner.
(he gestures tiredly at Eve and Lisa)
When two people generate this much unpredictable resonance, it distorts the field so completely you can’t isolate the signature you’re trying to track.
Brad
Like throwing a signal grenade.
(To Ling) I know that was hard. He pats him on the back and Ling walks away.
Cherry. (Continuing to gawk at Lisa and Eve.) smiling and excited. I guess I totally want the trashy underdogs to win.
Brad. Me too. Call it payback to someone I don’t even know.
INT. SAFEHOUSE — NIGHT
(Brad finishes speaking. A hush settles over the group. Lisa and Eve are still murmuring to each other on the couch, unaware of how intently everyone else is watching them.)
(A soft chime sounds. The door slides open. Evelyn enters, looking more serious than usual.)
Evelyn (coolly):
All right. I’ve let you all have your time to theorize. But now, I’m stepping in. I have a plan—and I need your agreement before we move forward.
(Eve looks up, instantly wary.)
Eve:
What plan?
Evelyn:
I’ll explain it to your…support team first. You’ll hear about it after they finish cross-referencing it with their conspiracies.
(She glances around the room.)
Evelyn:
Artimus isn’t here, is he?
Brad:
He actually works a job.
Evelyn:
Oh how…..refreshingly functional. (dryly) He doesn’t have to be part of this decision. He’ll be informed when it’s time. For now—Ling, Cherry, Brad, Buzz. I need you.
Eve. (muttering) The bitch is being condescending again.
(She gestures them toward the adjacent conference room.)
(Lisa looks uneasy as they stand.)
Lisa:
Hey—whatever this is, can you not just spring it on us after?
Evelyn:
That’s why I’m telling them first. If they don’t all agree, I won’t proceed.
(She meets Lisa’s gaze without flinching.)
Evelyn:
But if they do, you’ll need to decide whether you’re in or out.
Eve. (under her breath as she exits) She likes to push my buttons.
(She turns and leaves. The others follow, the door whispering shut behind them.)
INT. STRATEGY ROOM — CONTINUOUS
(The door seals. Evelyn stands at the head of the table, hands folded, calm but intense.)
Evelyn:
I’m going to show them the next scenes—an alternate timeline memory. It’s more intimate than anything they’ve seen so far. Watching it will amplify the frequency you all keep talking about.
(Buzz shifts uncomfortably.)
Buzz:
And then?
Evelyn:
Then I separate them. They won’t be allowed to see each other privately. Not for a while.
Cherry (blinking):
You’re going to split them up?
Evelyn:
Temporarily. It’s the only way to keep the frequency alive—to keep it vibrating across the field instead of stabilizing and going dormant.
Ling:
Where will they stay?
Evelyn:
Eve will stay with Artimus. Lisa will stay here, with you. The only place they’ll be able to interact is in controlled, visible ways—live broadcasts, interviews, public appearances. That resonance will be impossible for Sapphire to ignore.
Brad:
You’re betting everything on that bond being strong enough to lure her out.
Evelyn:
Correct. You saw how alive they are together. If that energy is channeled right—and denied just enough—it creates an irresistible pull.
Buzz:
And if they refuse?
Evelyn:
Then I don’t show them the scene. And this ends here. No more leverage to reach Sapphire.
(A heavy silence falls.)
Evelyn (quietly):
I need a unanimous yes. Otherwise…we let this go.
(She waits, eyes moving from face to face.)
OBSERVATION ROOM – EVE and LISA
A large monitor flickers to life, casting pale light across the room. Static dissolves into a shaky playback: Lisa and Eve, goggles strapped on, stepping into the alternate timeline.
They watch themselves—unaware, determined—moving through the scene.
Eve leads Lisa slowly into the bedroom…
This time, neither of them hesitated.
It began with hungry, heated kisses—mouths colliding, hands everywhere. Eve’s fingers tangled in Lisa’s hair, tugging her head back as she kissed along her throat. Then she practically tore Lisa’s shirt open, making her gasp.
Eve’s hands slid under the loosened fabric, pulling her bra down to expose her breasts. She cupped and fondled them, her thumbs brushing over her nipples until Lisa was arching into her touch.
Without breaking eye contact, Eve laid her back on the bed. She kissed her mouth, her neck, her breasts—slowly, thoroughly—like she’d been waiting a lifetime to taste her.
When she’d had her fill, she slowed her pace. One hand trailed lower, unbuttoning and unzipping Lisa’s pants and then caressed firmly between her legs.
Lisa’s breath caught—half a moan, half a plea.
Eve pressed her mouth to Lisa’s ear.
Eve (low):
Turn over for me.
Lisa obeyed without question.
Eve’s palm came down in a firm, spank on her backside. Lisa yelped—and then whimpered as Eve’s hand smoothed over the tender spot, rubbing slowly.
Eve (murmuring):
Beautiful.
She kissed her there, her lips soft against flushed skin.
Then she hooked her fingers in Lisa’s waistband and pulled her pants off, leaving her in nothing but her panties.
Eve lingered—kissing the curves of her behind, her thighs—before guiding Lisa onto her back again.
This time, Lisa helped, her hands finding the hem of Eve’s top. They pulled it over her head together. Eve’s breathing grew heavier as Lisa reached behind her to unclasp her bra, sliding it down her arms.
They paused—just long enough to look at each other. The need between them felt electric.
Eve climbed over her, pressing her nearly bare body to Lisa’s, kissing her slow and deep.
When she couldn’t wait anymore, she hooked her thumbs in her own panties and slipped them down, tossing them aside.
She kissed her way down Lisa’s body, pausing at her thighs. She kissed them softly, then looked up.
Lisa’s eyes were wide, her breath shaking.
Eve pulled off Lisa’s panties and propped her hips up just enough—and finally, she pressed her mouth to her clitoris.
Lisa gasped, her hands flying to Eve’s hair.
Eve moved slowly, savoring every sound Lisa made, every shiver that passed through her.
When she felt Lisa finally relax, trembling and spent, she crawled up beside her.
She spooned Lisa from behind, her arm draping around her waist. They lay together in the hush—breathing, hearts still racing, the world finally quiet.
BEDROOM – NIGHT
Lisa’s hand moved slowly over Eve’s bare side, her palm warm, her voice hushed with awe.
Lisa (soft):
This is the first time I get to really see you. You’re…stunning.
She swallowed, her gaze drifting over every inch of Eve’s skin.
Lisa (gently):
Stand up. I want to see you. Pretty please.
Eve smiled, a little shy but trusting, and rose from the bed.
Lisa:
Now…turn around.
Eve turned in place, her posture confident, shoulders back.
Lisa let out a slow breath.
Lisa:
God…you’re beautiful. Stay right there.
She slipped off the bed, stepping close. Her hands hovered at first—like she was memorizing the shape of Eve without touching. Then, slowly, she traced the outline of her body with her palms. Down Eve’s back. Over her hips. Pausing to cup her bottom, rubbing gently.
Lisa (voice low):
You need to lay down.
Eve turned to look at her, eyes bright.
Lisa:
Do you have any oil?
A small, wicked smile curled Eve’s lips.
Eve:
Top drawer.
Lisa kissed her shoulder and then crossed to the nightstand, finding the bottle.
Lisa (teasing):
Get comfortable. This is going to be a full-body rubdown.
Eve lay back, her head pillowed in her arms, watching as Lisa warmed the oil between her hands. Lisa took her time—smoothing it over Eve’s shoulders, down her spine, across every curve and hollow. She massaged her thighs, her calves, her feet. Then she shifted higher again, her hands gentler now, her mouth trailing soft kisses wherever her palms had been.
Eve finally arched up with a broken cry—shuddering as Lisa’s fingers stroked her clit in slow, relentless circles—she came undone beneath her touch. Lisa held her steady, her other hand splayed over her hips as she worked her gently through it.
Eve (quiet, amazed):
That…that was my first time coming.
Lisa froze—just for a second—then smiled tenderly, brushing Eve’s hair back from her damp forehead.
Lisa:
I figured that.
Eve blinked at her, a little incredulous.
Eve:
How did you know. You’re smart like that? Who knew?
Lisa laughed softly, holding her.
Lisa:
I’m reading your body like a beautiful novel. Just started really.
Eve swallowed, her eyes shimmering.
Eve (voice low):
You always seem to do what no one’s done before.
Lisa (grinning):
Sounds like something out of Star Trek.
Eve’s mouth fell open in mock outrage.
Eve:
Oh my god. Are you a Trekkie?
Lisa raised an eyebrow, trying to look serious—and failing.
Lisa:
What can I say?
Eve hid her face in the pillow, laughing.
Eve (muffled):
Okay Captain Kirk. What have you done to me?
Lisa.
Just exploring your planet and I like it here
Eve.
Scottie she’s not beaming back. Kiss me.
Lisa. Aye aye.
EARLY MORNING – EVE’S BEDROOM
The first light was just creeping across the floor when Eve blinked awake, reaching for the warm shape beside her.
But Lisa’s side was empty.
On the pillow, a folded note:
Talk to you later. I love you.
Eve sat up, rubbing her eyes, and let out a long breath. She picked up her phone, dialing with her thumb.
EVE (leaving voicemail, wry but warm):
What—you left? I can’t believe you did that. You couldn’t even stay for breakfast?
(pause)
I’m remembering this—and your butt’s gonna remember too next time I see you.
She ended the call, shaking her head, unable to help a faint smile.
She tried Artimus. No answer. Tried again. Nothing. Her jaw tightened. She called Buzz.
EVE:
Hey, Buzz. I’ve been trying to reach Artimus. Do you know where he is?
BUZZ (crackly on speaker):
Oh, he’s kind of…flailing. Hanging around bars. Probably just a hangover.
EVE (voice flattening):
Thanks for telling me. We need to keep closer tabs on each other.
BUZZ:
Yeah. I’ll call you if he shows up.
EVE:
Thanks.
She hung up, grabbed her keys, and drove straight to Artimus’s place. She let herself in—empty. No sign he’d been there all night.
Her pulse rising, Eve spent the next hour checking hospitals, then combing through every bar she could think of.
Finally, she spotted him, slumped in a corner booth, an untouched glass in front of him and another already in hand.
EVE (rushing over):
You scared the living shit out of me, Artimus. Come on—let’s get you home.
He lifted his head, squinting like he couldn’t believe she was real.
ARTIMUS (slurring):
Hey, mate. You came. Thought you were just…dream in my head.
She slipped her arm around him, guiding him up.
EVE:
Come on.
EVE’S CAR – MOMENTS LATER
He slumped against the window, humming tunelessly. She kept glancing over, her hands tight on the wheel.
ARTIMUS’S BEDROOM – DAY
She laid him on the bed, pulling his shoes off. He was out cold before she even tucked a blanket around him.
She sat in the chair by the window, watching him breathe.
Her phone buzzed. Lisa.
LISA (tentative):
Hi. I got your message. Are you really mad? Should I be worried?
EVE (voice low, affectionate):
Your butt’s going to get spanked when I see you.
LISA (groaning):
Eve, you’re killing me.
EVE:
Why did you leave?
LISA:
Because…you love two people. And I needed space to wrap my head around that.
EVE (exhaling):
Okay. I get it. I’ll keep that in mind…when you’re over my knee.
LISA (half-laughing, half-desperate):
Oh my God—stop. You know what that does to me.
EVE:
Okay, sweetie. Goodbye. Talk later.
A FEW HOURS LATER
Artimus woke with a groan, scrubbing his face. He reached for the pills on his nightstand, washed them down with stale water.
Eve stood in the doorway.
EVE (quiet):
We need to talk.
ARTIMUS (sighing):
Shoot. What is it?
EVE:
You’re scaring me. This isn’t you. Talk to me. I’m here for you.
ARTIMUS (bitter laugh):
Oh, that’s a funny one. When have you ever been there for me? You’re always there for Lisa. For everyone else. Never me. So just—just get out. You’re not my friend.
EVE (voice tightening):
Artimus. Stop.
ARTIMUS (shouting):
What—you want me to throw you out?
EVE (stepping closer):
You’re going to have to. Because I’m not leaving.
He shoved her back, but she didn’t let go. They grappled—a clumsy, desperate scuffle—and then she managed to get her arms around him, pressing her face to his chest.
EVE (voice breaking):
Don’t you dare try to kill yourself. We’re finally free—and I love you.
She kissed him—hard. He froze. Then his arms locked around her.
Without a word, he carried her into the bedroom and laid her down—his mouth already finding hers again, fierce and searching.
INT. ARTIMUS’S LIVING ROOM – MORNING
Eve emerges from the bedroom, hair mussed, her face soft and spent. Artimus follows her, looking dazed, like a man finally breathing again.
At the edge of the room, Lisa stands frozen, keys still in her hand.
LISA (voice low, wounded):
I can’t believe it. Straight from my bed…to your bed, Artimus.
Eve lifts her hands, heart in her throat.
EVE:
Lisa, please—let’s just…calm down. I didn’t plan this.
ARTIMUS (hoarse):
No. It’s my fault. (He rubs his eyes.) Let’s just sit down. Please—I can’t take this shit anymore. It’s ripping me apart.
He drops onto the couch, covering his face. His shoulders shake.
EVE (voice breaking):
I thought he was dead. I looked for him everywhere. I’m not going to lose him—not after everything we’ve survived.
Lisa’s eyes fill, her hand pressing over her mouth.
LISA (quietly):
Nobody has to lose anybody.
She wipes her eyes, searching Artimus’s face.
LISA:
Artimus…are you attracted to me at all?
He glances helplessly at Eve.
EVE (touching his hand):
It’s okay. Just say it.
ARTIMUS (sighing):
Of course I am. I’m a human man, aren’t I?
For a beat, they all stare at each other—and then, despite themselves, Lisa and Eve chuckle.
LISA (shaking her head, smiling through tears):
Well, then. I guess it’s settled. We’re a threesome.
EVE (smiling,wiping her eyes):
Yeah…we’re a threesome.
ARTIMUS (voice small):
Are you sure?
EVE (meeting Lisa’s gaze):
Yeah. We’re sure.
LISA (smiling softly):
We’re sure.
They both reach for him—Lisa to his right, Eve to his left—pulling him into an embrace that feels like home, the three of them tangled together, hearts thumping in time.
And in that hush, they each silently vow:
Never again.
No more running.
No more shame.
Never letting go.
LATER – LISA’S APARTMENT – EVENING
(Lisa moves around her little kitchen, opening the fridge.)
Lisa (calling over her shoulder):
Can I get you anything?
Eve:
What do you have?
Lisa (peering inside):
Water…tea…yeah, that’s about it.
Eve (smiling):
I’ll take a water.
(Lisa hands it over. They settle together on the couch, a little tentative.)
Eve:
So…it’s been kind of a rollercoaster day. Are you okay, Lisa?
(her voice soft)
I don’t want to make light of what happened—between just us. I don’t want you to think I don’t have feelings about it too.
Lisa (looking down):
It’s just…hard.
(beat)
Whatever those feelings were, it feels like they got upstaged. You and Artimus—what you have is strong.
(she meets Eve’s eyes)
How can I compete with that?
Eve (gently):
Yours is just as strong, Lisa. In a different way.
(voice firm)
That’s what I need you to know. Nothing between us was ever…negated. Not in my heart.
(smiling faintly)
The night we had…it’s stamped there forever.
Lisa (exhaling):
So it’s different now, right? We’re…a threesome.
Eve:
I can’t give up Artimus.
Lisa:
And I’m not asking you to.
(Eve watches her closely.)
Eve:
It seems like you and Artimus are close too.
(points lightly to her own chest)
In here…I know you’ve touched him in a deep way already. And…it seems like there’s some attraction there, between you two.
(quiet)
What do you think about that, hon?
Lisa (nodding slowly):
You’re…describing it well.
(soft smile)
Artimus is here. He’s part of us. I know that.
(she swallows)
It’s just…you had me so—
(smiling a little, shy)
I don’t know.
Eve (reaching out):
Come here. What are you doing way over there?
(teasing)
Don’t I owe you something? Give me a kiss.
Lisa (smiling):
Oh—I thought you meant…the other. For a second.
Eve (laughs quietly):
Oh—that.
(she leans closer)
Maybe just a soft one.
(Lisa relaxes as Eve kisses her, slow and sweet. Eve pulls back just enough to rest their foreheads together.)
Eve (whispering):
We won’t be able to stop if we keep going.
Lisa (breathless):
Yeah. If we’re really doing this…threesome thing…we should wait for Artimus. At least for now.
(Eve lifts her head, looking into her eyes.)
Eve (tender):
Thank you.
(She kisses her again—gentle, unhurried. They stay close, breathing together.)
🟦 DISNEYLAND – 2029
EXT. DISNEYLAND – THE SKY BUMPER ARENA – NIGHT
The park is electric. Neon trails shimmer through the sky like comet tails. Bumper cars no longer crawl on metal floors—they hover and glide in an open-air arena high above Tomorrowland. Holographic scoreboards track each hit with gleaming arcs of light.
Lisa, Eve, and Artimus are alone in the arena—their VIP pass grants them unlimited time.
They’ve played this game so many times the system practically recognizes their frequencies.
Eve swoops in, her car tilting with grace. She catches Lisa’s eye across the open space and nods conspiratorially.
EVE
He doesn’t stand a chance.
LISA
(smiling)
Let’s make him pay.
They both lurch forward—hovercrafts streaking neon trails—but Artimus simply tilts his controls and disappears up into a loop, the girls colliding harmlessly below him.
LISA
Oh, come on!
Artimus laughs, dipping back down to tap the nose of Lisa’s car with the tail of his. A bright +1 flashes over his vehicle.
ARTIMUS
(remorseless)
Try again, sweethearts.
He flips backward out of reach, the scoreboard crowning him champion yet again.
EVE
(throws her hands up)
He cheats. I swear he cheats.
LISA
I think he just really wants to be king of bumper cars.
ARTIMUS
It’s the only kingdom I have left!
EXT. DISNEYLAND – THE FUNHOUSE OF MIRRORS – NIGHT
This is their second home—a labyrinth of mirrors that don’t just reflect your face, but sometimes flicker with strange distortions—your child-self, your future-self, things you don’t even recognize.
Tonight, it feels different. Like the walls themselves are holding their breath.
They each slip into separate entries.
The rules are simple: whoever finds the other two first wins.
Lisa’s laughter echoes off the glass as she glides past an image of herself with sapphire-blue eyes. She pauses, confused. The reflection vanishes when she blinks.
Somewhere deeper in the maze, Eve’s silhouette flickers—then vanishes again, like she’s being edited out by the mirrors themselves.
Artimus’s voice calls out—low, amused.
ARTIMUS (O.S.)
Don’t tell me you’re both lost already.
Lisa spins in a circle. A thousand reflections of her spin with her. One of them—just for a second—isn’t her.
It’s a woman she doesn’t know, wearing Guardian robes, sapphire eyes luminous. Her lips move, but there’s no sound.
Lisa’s pulse spikes. She backs away—crashes into Eve, who materializes from between panels of glass.
They grab each other’s hands.
EVE
Did you see that?
LISA
I don’t know. But I think this place just…glitched.
They look around. The reflections ripple again—like the whole maze is a projection waiting for someone to break it.
INT. DINING ROOM – NIGHT
The table is cluttered with empty plates and half-finished glasses of wine. Everyone looks full, satisfied, a little lazy.
EVE
Okay—you two clean up. I’m tired.
LISA
That was delicious.
ARTIMUS
(leaning back)
Delicioso.
Lisa stands and stretches, catching Artimus’s eye with a sly glint.
LISA
Pass me the bread.
Artimus picks up the last piece like it’s a football and tosses it underhand. Lisa catches it dramatically and jogs toward the kitchen like she just scored.
She’s halfway to putting it away when Eve comes up behind her and swats her backside with a playful crack.
EVE
And I don’t care how you two clean up—but if I have to come back out here to finish, you’re both in trouble.
ARTIMUS
(grinning in the doorway)
Ha. You got spanked.
EVE
Artimus—don’t start.
Lisa turns, mock-outraged, and sticks her tongue out at both of them.
LISA
That’s not fair.
ARTIMUS
(pointing)
See that? She did it again.
EVE
(sighing, heading toward the hallway)
I’m taking a shower. Lisa—keep your tongue in your mouth unless we’re in the bedroom.
Lisa’s jaw drops, scandalized but secretly delighted. Artimus bursts out laughing as Eve disappears down the hall.
LISA
(to Artimus, muttering)
She’s going to pay for that one later.
ARTIMUS
(grinning)
Can I watch?
Lisa swats him with the bread.
FADE OUT.
INT. KITCHEN – NIGHT
Lisa wipes down the last stretch of the counter, her movements slowing. She exhales, brushing a stray hair behind her ear.
She glances up—out the kitchen window.
And there they are again.
Two eyes the color of glacial sapphire, watching her from somewhere she can’t quite place.
A shiver runs through her, and for a moment, she can’t tell which sadness is hers and which belongs to the woman on the other side of the glass.
LISA
(whispering)
I know you’re out there.
She blinks, and the eyes vanish—like they were never there. She stays frozen, cloth in hand.
INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT
Eve and Artimus lie tangled in the sheets, still breathless from laughter and something deeper. Eve’s hair fans across Artimus’s chest, his hand absently stroking her arm.
EVE
(smiling)
She’s been gone a while.
ARTIMUS
(grinning)
Maybe she’s plotting her revenge.
Eve lifts her head.
EVE
Lisa!
No answer.
ARTIMUS
(calling out, louder, in a booming coach voice)
Lisa!
They wait. Nothing.
A beat.
EVE
(exhaling)
I got this. Let me find her.
She slides out of bed and pulls on her robe, glancing back at Artimus with a look that says stay put.
EXT. PORCH – NIGHT
Lisa sits on the porch railing, arms wrapped around herself. The night air is cool, quiet.
Eve steps out, tightening her robe around her.
EVE
Lisa, what are you doing out here, hon?
LISA
Just thinking. It’s nothing.
EVE
It’s something.
(beat)
Honey, I have a robe on. Can you come inside so we can talk about it?
Lisa doesn’t move. Eve sighs and walks back in, grabbing a dining chair and setting it just inside the open door. She sits.
EVE
Oh, come here, baby. Want to sit on my lap?
LISA
No. Can’t you see I’m not in the mood?
EVE
Well, if I didn’t, I sure do now.
(she stands, about to leave)
You want some time alone? No problem.
She starts to walk away.
LISA
Remember the last thing I said to Ben before we left?
Eve stops, turns back slowly.
EVE
What’s going on, Lisa?
LISA
Please… I want to talk to somebody. I feel all alone sometimes.
Eve pauses, then quietly sits back down and reaches out her hand.
EVE
Hey. I’m here.
(squeezes her hand)
The last thing you said to Ben—it was about the Guardians and Sapphire. Afterward you told us you somehow knew Ben was beholden to that nasty Guardian faction, and that one hybrid named Sapphire was on the run from them. It scared Ben enough to back off, I guess.
LISA
I keep seeing Sapphire. She’s contacting me. You saw her in the fun house.
EVE
So what do you think it means?
LISA
It feels like… she just wants to tell us where to find her.
Eve draws in a slow breath, studying her.
EVE
Then we should tell Artimus.
(smiles softly)
But that means you getting your little bottom up and coming to bed.
Lisa hesitates, then climbs off the railing and steps forward—just enough to sit down on Eve’s lap after all.
EVE
Oh, you’re being nice now.
She strokes Lisa’s hair, then slides her hand down her back, over her body.
EVE
Okay, baby. Let’s get your pajamas on.
She stands, easing Lisa up with her, and gives her a gentle swat.
EVE
Give me a kiss—
Lisa kisses her, slow and a little shy.
INT. BUZZ’S LAB AND LIVING SPACE – NIGHT
They’re sprawled on mismatched couches, a few empty coffee mugs on the table. Buzz sits cross-legged on the floor, laptop open. The air hums with an undercurrent of anticipation.
BUZZ
Well, I was just letting you three, you know—have your well-deserved play time. Finding your inner child at Disneyland.
ARTIMUS
(inner child)
What inner child? Me and Eve were never allowed to be children.
BUZZ
Alright—making up for lost time, then. Does that sound better?
ARTIMUS
We’ve been doing that every day now.
EVE
Artimus—
BUZZ
(smiling)
It’s okay, Eve. It’s all above my head anyway.
LISA
Oh, Buzz. Don’t be so modest.
BUZZ
(pointing at her)
Smart one over there—sees right through me.
EVE
Anyway—besides talking about our sex lives without actually saying the word sex, I think we’re here to discuss Lisa’s…uh…perceptions.
BUZZ
Right. So, Artimus already told me everything.
LISA
Jeez. That was fast.
BUZZ
Yeah—we’re tight.
LISA
(smirking)
Mm-hm.
BUZZ
Anyway, I’ve been brainstorming ways to test what you can do. Since, Lisa—you already know you caused the power to go out.
LISA
Wait—that was me?
EVE
(lightly)
Oops. I think I forgot to mention that part.
LISA
(sighs)
Fantastic. My scans are deadly.
BUZZ
Well, we’re going to need more scans than ever to pull this off.
LISA
Pull what off?
BUZZ
(leaning forward, serious)
Finding Sapphire.
The room goes still. Even the hum of the machines seems to fade.
EVE
(nods)
Let’s find this chick…and go home.
INT. BUZZ’S LAB – CONTROL ROOM – NIGHT
Buzz and Artimus stand over a bank of screens. Readouts flicker in real time—Lisa’s frequency profile scrolling in streams of color and code.
BUZZ
Alright—her baseline is stable. Now we’re going to push it. See if the resonance signatures spike enough to triangulate anything.
ARTIMUS
And if we blow a fuse?
BUZZ
(shrugging)
We flip a breaker and try again. Just don’t get her to a full meltdown, yeah?
They share a conspiratorial look.
ARTIMUS
(grinning)
I’ll patch through the comms. Eve, you good in there?
INTERCUT – MONITORING ROOM – SAME
Eve stands with Lisa in a softly lit room—part lab, part sanctuary. A mat on the floor. A small case of tools. Lisa perches on the edge of the mat, watching her warily.
EVE
(over comms)
Yeah. We’re good. How high are you taking this?
BUZZ (V.O.)
As high as you can get her without tripping the lab. So…do what you do.
Lisa smirks, rolling her eyes.
LISA
Do what you do? Wow—very scientific.
EVE
(kneeling in front of her)
Ignore them. Just focus on me.
She lifts a small scanner in one hand, her other hand resting lightly on Lisa’s thigh.
LISA
What exactly are you scanning, Doctor?
EVE
(smiling sweetly)
Everything.
Lisa’s eyes flicker—part apprehension, part thrill.
EVE
We’re going to elevate your frequency—maybe trigger something. A memory, a vision, anything that connects to Sapphire.
LISA
And if I blow the lights again?
EVE
(softly)
Then you’ll know you’re doing it right.
Their eyes meet—steady, intimate.
EVE
Ready?
LISA
(whispering)
Yeah. Just…don’t hold back.
INT. CONTROL ROOM
Buzz leans over a console, grinning like a kid at Christmas.
BUZZ
Oh, this is going to be good.
ARTIMUS
Just don’t record their audio. I’m serious.
BUZZ
(innocently)
Who, me?
Artimus throws him a look. They both refocus on the screens, watching the frequency meters start to climb.
EVE
So… our intention is to find Sapphire. Just to let the ethers know. Not any crazy aliens with tentacles.
LISA
(smiling)
You always ask for exactly what you want. You always know.
EVE
(sighing)
I don’t know, Lisa. Sometimes I just… take it.
(looks into her eyes)
I could go into some detail to jog your memory.
LISA
(low, intimate)
I like it when you do that.
EVE
Remember that day I came home, completely wrecked from talking to my mother? That same night—I think I pulled up your skirt and tackled you to the floor. Gave you a good spanking for wearing that skirt in the first place.
(voice softer)
Then… I got you good on your back.
She pauses, searching her face, conflicted.
What the hell is wrong with me? Somebody should tell me to get some help. I mean real help.
LISA
(softly)
What happened?
EVE
The power’s out. Didn’t you notice?
BUZZ (over comms)
Good job, ladies. We got it back online now. Do that again—whatever it was.
Eve closes her eyes, lets out a ragged breath.
EVE
We never talked about it. How did you feel about what I did to you that night?
LISA
Your mom… that’s a big issue.
EVE
How did you feel?
LISA
(takes a long moment)
I don’t know. I was… excited. And worried for you.
(smiling just a little)
Hey—I didn’t feel used, okay? I promise. You were trying to… transform all that negative energy into bliss.
EVE
I didn’t spank too hard, did I?
LISA
No. It didn’t hurt.
EVE
You’d tell me if it did?
LISA
Yeah. I’d tell you.
Eve looks down, her voice fragile.
EVE
I need some kind of therapist for my mother issues.
LISA
(softly, brushing Eve’s cheek)
Now that you’re finally free from danger… all the old stuff surfaces. That’s how it works I guess.
EVE
Oh, shit—they’re waiting on us.
She glances toward the door, flustered.
EVE
What do I do?
LISA
Just… hold me.
Eve pulls her in, arms wrapped around her waist, face buried in Lisa’s neck.
EVE
(whispers)
I’m so sorry. I don’t even think you want me to touch you right now.
LISA
That’s not true.
(voice steady)
Kiss me.
Eve lifts her head, meets Lisa’s mouth in a slow, hungry kiss. Lisa slides her hands along Eve’s shoulders, gently pushing her down, straddling her.
EVE
Lisa—wait… they could walk in any second.
LISA
(smiling against her lips)
I know.
That fear—the thrill of being caught—sparks something electric between them. The readouts outside spike.
On the monitors, the frequency goes off the chart.
Just as footsteps echo down the hall, Lisa jumps off Eve, heart racing.
BUZZ (calling from the comm)
Uhhh… that worked. Good job, you two.
They sit there, breathless, hair mussed, faces flushed. And they can’t stop smiling.
INT. OBSERVATION ROOM – NIGHT
The light snaps on abruptly. The alternate reality flickers and disappears.
Lisa and Eve slowly take off their goggles, blinking against the sudden brightness.
Evelyn stands near the door, arms folded.
Evelyn (flat):
It’s time for you two to separate.
Eve turns to her, voice hard.
Eve:
Wait. Why didn’t you tell us Lisa felt contacted by Sapphire in this timeline?
Evelyn shrugs, almost bored.
Evelyn:
I don’t know. Because you were going to find out eventually. (dry) Always trying to control people, this one.
Eve’s jaw tightens.
Eve:
Maybe that’s because I don’t trust you.
Evelyn:
Like that’s my problem. It’s not my job to babysit your feelings. Now— (gestures to the door) —it’s time you go your separate ways.
Eve’s face darkens. She steps forward fast, her fists clenched.
Eve:
This bitch is asking for it. Why not give her what she wants—
Brad and Cherry rush in, intercepting her before she can get to Evelyn.
Cherry (soothing):
Eve—hey. Not now.
Brad (firm):
Come on. Not like this.
Eve glares past them, seething. Evelyn just lifts an eyebrow, unbothered.
Lisa stands quietly off to the side, her eyes wet. She looks at Eve, then at Evelyn, then back at Eve.
Finally, Eve tears her gaze away and crosses to Lisa. They hug hard—like neither wants to let go.
Eve’s voice breaks, low against Lisa’s ear.
Eve:
I love you.
Lisa (whispering):
I love you too.
They pull back, eyes searching each other’s faces, memorizing.
Evelyn taps a control on her wrist, the door sliding open with a hiss.
Evelyn:
Enough. Time to go to your dwellings.
With a last look, Eve turns and walks out. Lisa watches her disappear down the corridor before she slowly heads the other way.
The door closes between them with a final metallic thud.
INTERVIEWER
So you’re out here slumming it on Earth? Just decided to pop in?
EVE
Oh yeah—snap, crackle, and pop. (smiles) Have you happened to see my girl around? I seem to have lost her. There’s something I want to give her.
(She looks straight into the camera, smiling slow.)
INTERVIEWER
So folks—Lisa’s apparently missing…or hiding. Trouble in the Trio world? Should Lisa be worried—or excited—that you’re out here calling her out on my show?
EVE (smiling wider)
Can Lisa be worried without being excited? She knows what she’s going to get when she gets home.
(Eve slaps her thigh lightly. The audience howls.)
INTERVIEWER
So maybe you got to know some Guardians when you were gone. Is that what this is all about? Jealousy, maybe?
EVE
I did meet a Guardian prince while I was there. But I’m not one to kiss and tell.
(The crowd reacts with laughter and cheers.)
EVE (teasing)
Was Lisa jealous? Maybe.
INTERVIEWER
We have a surprise for you tonight. Lisa—come on out.
(The audience erupts as Lisa appears. She’s wearing low-slung dark jeans and a vintage black motorcycle jacket with a white star on the back, her hair loose around her shoulders. Under the jacket, a fitted gray T-shirt hugs her figure. She looks effortlessly dangerous and exactly like when she was doing films on earth.
(Eve, standing there in slim black trousers and a deep burgundy cropped satin jacket over a white tank, flushes visibly when she sees her.)
(Lisa walks straight up to a microphone set just for her, eyes locked on Eve.)
LISA
It sounds like you’re the one in trouble tonight.
(She curls her finger in a slow come here motion.)
(Eve blushes deeper, her usual composure cracking. She walks over like she’s already been caught, stepping up beside Lisa at the second microphone.)
LISA
So you said I was going to get in trouble when I got home?
INTERVIEWER
Well…let’s see about that.
(The big screen flickers to life behind them, showing old footage of Lisa on a movie set. She’s in character, kissing one of the infamous Rat Pack girls—slow, hungry, and unapologetic. The kiss goes on longer than polite, and the crowd roars.)
(Lisa shifts her stance just enough to trail her hand over Eve’s hip, then slides it to the curve of her backside. Without looking away from the screen, she gives her a quick, deliberate smack.)
(Eve lets out a small, startled noise, face red, eyes darting to Lisa with a mixture of embarrassment and excitement.)
(The interviewer can barely keep a straight face.)
INTERVIEWER
Okay…if you think you can do a better job than that, you two, we’re going to donate to the charity of your choice.
(He gestures offstage.)
We have three judges tonight—the other comedians from earlier.
(The judges step up to the edge of the stage, grinning, as crew members pull the microphones out of the way and leave Lisa and Eve standing there in the spotlight.)
INTERVIEWER
You’ve got the floor. Make it count.
(Lisa glances over at Eve, who tries to look defiant but can’t quite pull it off. The crowd quiets in anticipation.)
LISA (soft, just for Eve)
Prove it.
(Lisa lifts her hand to the back of Eve’s neck and draws her in. The first kiss is deceptively gentle—just a slow, steady press of lips. But when Eve’s breath hitches, Lisa deepens it, sliding her tongue deliberately until Eve’s hands clutch at her waist. The kiss doesn’t look staged. It looks like something they’ve been holding back for weeks. The audience goes absolutely wild.)
(When they finally break apart, Eve’s lips are parted, her breathing ragged. Lisa just looks satisfied.)
INTERVIEWER (laughing as he comes back on)
Judges?
(One judge fans themselves theatrically. Another gives two thumbs up. The last just says into the mic—)
JUDGE #3
Yeah. That’s worth a donation.
(The crowd cheers, the cameras zoom in on the two of them—still standing too close, still watching each other like nothing else matters.)
INT. ARTIMUS’ BEDROOM — NIGHT
(Eve and Artimus lie in bed. Eve is scrolling through her feed, her face lit by the screen. She types quickly.)
Eve (dry):
She is out galavanting around the city.
Artimus:
She’s in her element—having fun. Brad and Ling will keep a close eye on her.
Eve:
Cherry’s with them too. She keeps texting me updates. She’s a real friend to me. I wanna spend some time with her too.
Artimus (smirking):
I swear it’s like the next generation trio. They’re smarter, more connected to…whatever’s out there.
Eve (indignant):
Artimus—Brad is older than me!
Artimus:
I thought we were going with emotional ages now.
Eve (thoughtful):
Brad doesn’t have an age.
(pauses, realizing)
And Ling…well, he might actually live forever. Like Sapphire.
(sighs)
I feel so ancient.
INT. POPULAR EXCLUSIVE NIGHTCLUB — NIGHT
(Bass thumping, lights low. Brad is leaned in, speaking discreetly. Ling sits calm as ever. Cherry is on her phone, scanning incoming messages. Lisa bounces her knee, looking thrilled.)
Brad (quietly):
Okay—this may be our break. She’s definitely hybrid Guardian, I think.
Ling:
A hybrid could locate us. I’m not sure if they’re speaking to Sapphire. We’ll see.
Cherry (scrolling, sighs):
You guys…it could be anyone.
Lisa (grinning):
This is cool. It feels like the CIA. Black ops.
Brad:
Just sit back. You have people lining up to see you.
(to the waitress)
We’ll have another round.
(Cherry glances up from her phone.)
Cherry:
She’s here. They’re bringing her in.
(A figure emerges from the shadows—tall, vaguely humanoid, swathed in a long cloaking garment. She sits gracefully.)
Lisa (leaning forward):
You have a message for us?
(The figure slowly peels back the cloak. She is hybrid—smooth features, luminous eyes—and almost completely naked beneath the fabric.)
Sandera (soft, earnest):
My name is Sandera.
(pauses dramatically)
And…could I have your autograph?
(Lisa blinks, mouth falling open. A flush creeps up her neck.)
Lisa (awkward, trying to be polite):
Uh…do you have anything…for me to write on?
Sandera (points to her hip, dead serious):
Write it here.
(Lisa stares for a second—then swivels her head slowly toward Brad, wide-eyed.)
Lisa:
Back to the bat cave, bro.
(Brad just pinches the bridge of his nose.)
INT. ARTIMUS’ BEDROOM — NIGHT
(Eve is propped up in bed, scrolling her feed. Artimus has one arm behind his head.)
Eve (reflective):
You know…it’s weird. In the past, I’d be angry.
(beat)
I’d get worried over a thing like this—wondering what kind of shenanigans Lisa’s butt might get into this time.
(smiles faintly)
But I’m not. Am I…growing?
Artimus (matter-of-fact):
Everybody grows just by living.
(glances over)
I think it’s because we feel more supported by…the other trio.
Eve:
We should really give them a name.
Artimus (raising an eyebrow):
We haven’t even given us a name.
EXT. CITY SIDEWALK — EARLY MORNING
(The street is quiet except for the occasional taxi passing. Lisa, Brad, Cherry, and Ling walk in a loose group. They’re relaxed, like people who’ve been up all night talking.)
Cherry (smiling):
I might see Eve tomorrow. She wants me to try on some clothes she thinks would look good on me.
(Lisa breathes in, her eyes thoughtful. She speaks softly, almost to herself.)
Lisa:
Wow…this is what it feels like. Having friends.
(She wipes under one eye quickly—just a flicker of emotion.)
Brad (glancing over, kind):
You good?
Lisa (nodding):
Yeah.
(she exhales)
Just…feels new. After everything.
(They keep walking. No one tries to hug her—nobody makes it awkward.)
Ling (dry, with an accent):
Dude. Now that we’re friends…maybe you could stop playing pool around me? Just—please don’t include me.
Lisa (half-laughing, shaking her head):
This pool thing is some goddamn sign.
TV Studio – Game Show Set
(Bright lights, applause signs flashing. Artimus sits in a huge velvet chair, trying to look dignified. The Host grins at the camera.)
HOST (excited):
Welcome back to Love, Truth, or Dare! The only show where the galaxy’s most notorious trio lets us all watch their questionable relationship decisions—live!
(Audience cheers.)
HOST:
Artimus—our long-suffering gentleman—how are you feeling tonight?
ARTIMUS (deadpan):
Like this is a questionable career move.
HOST:
Excellent! Let’s make it worse. Bring out contestant number two!
(Eve walks out, confidently in her fitted black dress, sits sideways on Artimus’s lap.)
EVE:
Hi, Jerry. I’m here to supervise.
HOST:
Supervise or participate?
EVE (smirking):
Yes.
(Crowd laughs.)
HOST:
And finally—our radiant chaos agent herself. Give it up for Lisa!
(Lisa struts out, hair perfect, wearing a stylish outfit, a little wary.)
LISA:
Hi. I’d just like to remind everyone I didn’t sign a waiver for this.
HOST:
You absolutely did. (holds up clipboard) In triplicate.
(Audience hoots.)
HOST:
Alright, Lisa, you know the rules. We spin the wheel. If it lands on Truth, I read a statement, and Eve and Artimus tell us if it’s true. If they’re right, you choose one thing to take off. If it lands on Dare, they pick what comes off.
LISA:
Who invented this game?
EVE:
I might have submitted it anonymously.
(Crowd erupts in laughter.)
HOST:
Spin that wheel!
*(Huge colorful wheel spins. Lands on Truth.)
HOST:
Okay—here’s your first statement:
“Lisa secretly likes it when Eve calls her ‘sweetheart’ in public—even though she pretends to hate it.”
(Lisa covers her face. Eve and Artimus exchange knowing looks.)
EVE:
True.
ARTIMUS:
Definitely true.
HOST:
Lisa?
LISA (mumbling):
…True.
HOST:
Alright, pick what comes off.
LISA (dramatic sigh):
My earrings.
(Audience groans.)
HOST:
Wow—going strategic. Next round!
*(Wheel spins again. Lands on Dare.)
EVE (smiling):
Oh, this is too easy.
ARTIMUS:
Lose the shoes.
LISA:
I can do that.
(Kicks them off.)
HOST:
One more!
*(Wheel spins. Lands on Truth.)
HOST:
Lisa once told Artimus that she dreamed of running away to a beach planet and opening a bar with him.
ARTIMUS (smiling softly):
True.
EVE:
Aw, that’s sweet.
LISA (shrugs):
True.
HOST:
Shoes,socks, earrings…we’re getting nowhere.
EVE:
Let me spin it next.
*(Wheel spins one last time—Dare.)
EVE:
Take off your jacket, sweetheart.
(Lisa unbuttons her stylish jacket and tosses it at Eve, who catches it smugly.)
HOST:
We’ll be right back after the break—if Lisa doesn’t run off the set.
(Audience cheers.)
🌟 Meanwhile…
🎬 INT. CHERRY’S APARTMENT – NIGHT
(Eve and Cherry sit on the couch, watching the game show replay on the big screen.)
CHERRY (laughing):
You two are out of control.
EVE (sipping tea):
You think this is out of control? Wait until next week’s cooking show.
CHERRY
How long can you keep this up? Does Evelyn give you any thoughts on that?
EVE
Oh my god, that woman. I personally think she’s had something up her sleeve this whole time. I just don’t know what.
CHERRY
I think she’s stripping something away from you two by doing this.
EVE
What is that, Cherry?
CHERRY
At some point…it’s just the secret sauce shining. That’s it. She might even get off on it. And it’s true—it will probably finally give Sapphire what she’s looking for. To come out—or come back, rather.
EVE
How do you know all this, Cherry?
CHERRY
How did Lisa know so many things that got you and me out of captivity?
EVE (deadpan, staring at the screen)
There’s always one in a trio, huh?
(She lifts her mug and taps it against Cherry’s.)
EVE
Here’s to the know-it-alls.
🎬 BACK TO THE GAME SHOW – LAST ROUND
(Lisa is now down to her sports bra and boxers, standing barefoot on the stage. She’s flushed but smirking defiantly.)
HOST (grinning):
Alright, folks—final spin of the night. Let’s see what fate has in store for Lisa.
EVE (walking over, hand on her hip):
Let me do the honors.
(Eve spins the wheel herself. It lands squarely on Dare. The crowd goes wild.)
EVE (turns to Lisa, teasing):
You’ve been such a good sport.
EVE:
One last dare.
(Eve and Artimus step closer, bracketing Lisa on either side.)
ARTIMUS (low voice):
Take off—
(Before he can finish, the STUDIO LIGHTS FLICKER and go out completely.)
(There’s a long, charged hush—just silhouettes on stage.)
(Then, in the dim glow of the EXIT signs, the audience can barely make out Eve and Artimus leaning in. Lisa tilts her face up, and they both kiss her—one on her lips, one along her neck.)
(The audience SCREAMS. Camera flashes pop.)
HOST (somewhere off in the dark, shouting):
Uh—we seem to be experiencing technical difficulties—
(Stagehands rush forward. The crowd is chanting and losing their minds as the credits roll.)
ANNOUNCER VOICEOVER (as the screen fades to black):
Join us next week for more questionable programming on… LOVE, TRUTH, OR DARE!
INT. EVE & ARTIMUS’S HOME – NIGHT
(Artimus comes in from the kitchen, wiping his hands on a towel. Eve is sitting on the couch, staring intently at the screen—footage of the alternate timeline playing on repeat.)
Artimus (watching her):
I wonder why Evelyn gave you a copy of that.
Eve:
I don’t know.
Artimus (sitting beside her):
Why do you keep watching it?
(Eve doesn’t answer right away. She studies the screen, voice quiet.)
Eve:
There’s something about Lisa’s tone…when she said she feels alone. When she sees Sapphire…and feels like nobody would understand.
Artimus (searching her face):
Hey. What’s going on with you?
(leans closer)
You look pale.
Eve (finally turning to him):
I don’t feel good.
(her hand drifts to her chest)
I feel…heavy.
Artimus (gently):
Alright. Stop this. Let’s go to bed.
(Her phone buzzes on the coffee table. She picks it up.)
Eve:
Oh—hi, Cherry.
(pause)
No, I don’t want you involved. That’s final.
(her expression shifts)
You—what?
(sighs)
Cherry… I’m not trying to be your mother. I’m your friend.
(listens, voice softening)
You really feel that way?
(another pause)
Okay. I guess I have no choice. I’ll see you tomorrow.
(She sets the phone down, rubbing her temple.)
Artimus:
What’s going on?
Eve:
Evelyn wants to scan me tomorrow. She thinks…maybe I’m tapping into Sapphire’s feelings again—like I did with Cherry.
(shakes her head)
And now Cherry says she’s coming too. Evelyn asked her to be there.
Artimus (quiet, steady):
I know she’s younger…but if she decided to go along, there must be a good reason. That one’s smart, Eve.
Eve (voice breaking a little):
I know.
(her eyes glisten)
I just want to protect her. Is that so awful?
Artimus:
No.
(he takes her hand)
Come on. Let’s go to bed.
(He leans in, kissing her cheek.)
Artimus (smiling faintly):
I’ll get the oil.
(Eve hugs him tight, her eyes closing)
🌿 CHERRY, EVELYN, and EVE – LAB IN GARDENIA
The lab is colder than Eve remembers—more clinical, like everything personal has been scrubbed away. Monitors flicker in neat rows along the walls. In the center, a bank of holo-screens hovers above a polished steel console, looping old Guardian data feeds.
Evelyn:
Okay, you know how this goes. Not a stitch of clothes on.
Eve:
Yes, Evelyn. I am a doctor, remember? A doctor experiencing karma.
Evelyn:
(smiling thinly)
I’ll be right back.
(Evelyn leaves. Eve exhales shakily.)
Cherry:
Are you okay taking your clothes off with me here?
Eve:
Honestly? I don’t want to be alone and naked with Evelyn, if you know what I mean.
Cherry:
(softly)
I do. Let me help you.
(Cherry helps Eve disrobe. Evelyn returns holding a sleek scanning device and a silver mesh cap bristling with fine filaments.)
Evelyn:
All right—stand here on the platform. Put this on.
(She hands Eve the cap. Eve hesitates, then pulls it over her hair.)
Eve:
Okay…but you’re not inserting anything in me. I know that much.
Cherry:
(sternly to Evelyn)
She means it.
Evelyn:
(flat)
Hush, you two. No insertions today.
(Eve steps onto the low platform. Soft lights ripple under her bare feet.)
Evelyn:
Hold still. This will be more thorough than any of your old scans.
(She lifts the scanner, passing it in slow arcs from the crown of Eve’s head to the soles of her feet, front to back. A monitor flickers with complex biofeedback.)
Evelyn:
Now—stand straight. Keep your eyes forward. I’m going to extract any unconscious communications she may be transmitting to you.
Eve:
(tired, resigned)
Fine. Just get it over with.
(Cherry moves to stand in Eve’s eyeline, her expression warm and steady.)
Cherry:
It’s okay. I’m right here.
(Eve’s gaze softens as the scan begins.)
Evelyn (removing the scanner):
Evelyn
Okay, it’s Cherry’s turn. You can put your clothes back on.
Eve
What? Cherry!
Cherry
I didn’t want you to worry more. I’ve been having similar symptoms, Eve.
Eve
Cherry, you don’t have to do this.
(Eve bends over, gathering her clothes. In that split second, Cherry catches Evelyn’s glance—something lingering, almost hungry.)
Evelyn (in a slightly different tone)
Okay. I’ll be back in five minutes. Be ready.
(she looks at Cherry)
(As the door closes, Cherry’s shoulders drop. She turns to Eve as she is zipping up her pants, voice quiet, sad.)
Cherry
Eve…I saw Evelyn checking you out. More than a doctor. When you were putting your clothes on. There’s something there.
Eve
It’s okay. But you’re not doing this, okay?
Cherry
What? You’re not fazed at all by what I just said?
Eve (chuckles)
No, Cherry. I can handle this. Thanks for having such a good eye. It…confirms my hypothesis.
(The door hisses open again. Evelyn reenters.)
Evelyn
What’s the problem?
Eve
This seems like a simple procedure. I pick up on things fast. I’ll scan Cherry myself. You can make sure the equipment is right from the other room.
Evelyn (staring at her)
What is this about?
Eve (meeting her gaze evenly)
Look, Evelyn. I’m not here to judge. I know Guardians can be…shall we say…fascinated, and have longings when around humans. Let me do this for Cherry—and we can discuss this in more detail afterward. Just you and me.
(she holds Evelyn’s stare)
(Evelyn pauses, her expression hard to read.)
Evelyn
Fine. Let me show you exactly what you’re doing first, so you don’t mess it up.
Eve (nods calmly)
Okay.
Evelyn shows her how to work the devices.
Eve watches closely, her eyes narrowed in concentration, absorbing every detail.
Evelyn finishes, her tone clipped.
Evelyn (dry):
I trust you can handle it?
Eve:
I’m a quick study.
Evelyn:
Fine. I’ll be in the observation room if you need anything.
(She gives Eve a look—hard to read—and slips out the door.)
The door hisses shut.
Eve exhales, rolling her shoulders like she’s releasing tension she didn’t know she was holding.
She turns to Cherry.
Eve (big sigh):
Okay, girly…I can scan you, but I need to know how you feel about that.
(pauses, earnest)
I value our friendship, Cherry. A lot.
Cherry (half-laughing, half-shy):
You’re afraid I’m gonna develop a crush on you.
Eve (smiling, taking her hands):
If you did…that would be kind of natural in a way.
(softens)
Look at everything we’ve been through together.
(tilts her head)
And…I don’t think you’re seeing anyone, are you?
(voice gentler)
Cherry…you don’t ever have to cover up your feelings with me. I promise. I’m not going to judge you—either way.
Cherry (smiling, meeting her eyes):
Actually…I think I’m pretty straight.
(laughs quietly)
I’ve got that nailed down about myself.
But…I’m just shy about my body.
Eve (grinning, a little relief in her eyes):
Fair enough.
(she gestures to the exam platform)
Come on—let’s get your clothes off.
(her tone playful, reassuring)
Trust me, sweetie—if there’s one thing I’d know about, it’s this stuff.
(grins wider)
You’re good.
(shakes her head fondly)
Honestly…I feel sorry for the guy who’s gonna have to try to keep up with you.
EVE and EVELYN OBSERVATION ROOM
Evelyn:
Okay. You said we should talk.
Eve (steady, low):
That’s right, Evelyn. The gig is up. What are we doing here? Where is this going?
(tilts her head, voice dry)
I’m sure Rex wouldn’t approve.
Evelyn (smiling faintly):
I’m doing this as a favor to Rex. I don’t have to, though.
(shrugs, cool)
I can—as you humans say—pull out any time.
Eve (arching a brow):
Starting to enjoy sexual innuendo, are we?
(she leans in slightly)
Well—enjoy this: you’re not my type.
(her voice hardens)
Now tell me the truth about what you’re doing—
Eve (smirking):
You know…I could—how shall I put it—spank you, Evelyn.
(her eyes gleam)
Rex loves me, and he trumps you, sweetheart.
(she leans closer, voice low)
This could be…very embarrassing if he knew the truth.
(pauses)
And you know how gossip travels.
Evelyn (unbothered):
I’ve been doing my job. It’s all coming together nicely.
(her gaze sharpens)
And you forgot about your other power.
(her voice softens, almost dreamy)
You know…the secret sauce.
Eve (groaning, turning her head):
Oh, for God’s sake. Is that what this is about?
(she gestures vaguely)
You want to sample the secret sauce?
(sputters)
And how—pray tell—is that even supposed to happen?
(voice rising)
Do you think if I knew how to wield the secret sauce, I’d be here talking to you?!
Evelyn (calm, voice low):
Kiss me like you kiss Lisa.
(pauses)
Make it real. No?
(smiles faintly)
That’s what you know how to do.
Eve (shaking her head, incredulous):
Oh geez—there is no amount of acting—
Evelyn (leaning just slightly forward):
Do your best…and I’ll promise you something very special in return.
Eve (eyeing her warily):
And what’s that? A therapy subscription for life?
Evelyn (unfazed):
I’ll let you in on what I’m doing. I’ll show you everything I’ve compiled.
(beat)
And you can decide what to do with it.
Eve (flat):
And why should I trust you?
Evelyn (voice soft but unshaking):
I don’t know.
(her eyes lock on Eve’s)
Maybe you can just…tell I’m telling the truth. Right now.
(pauses, tilts her head)
I’ll tell you this truth:
I can pull out now. And I won’t lose my good name.
Eve (disgusted, but her eyes flicker, calculating):
God.
(sighs)
Just…give me one second. Please.
Eve closes her eyes, pressing two fingers to her temple. She tries to tap into the Oracle.
ORACLE – INWARD VISION
(The Oracle’s presence feels warm, impartial, almost amused.)
Oracle (soft):
Who are you protecting now, Eve?
Eve:
She’s shady. She’s not above board.
Oracle:
Do you really think you can make someone trustworthy with threats?
(pause)
What are you feeding? What are you amplifying?
—————————————————
(Eve opens her eyes, breathes. The question hits her somewhere tender.)
Eve (exhaling):
Look…I’m sorry I threatened you.
(voice low)
Truly. I know I can’t make you trustworthy. I’m not going to try.
(She falls quiet, thinking. Then she goes inward again—her brow furrowing as she listens.)
Eve (softly, almost to herself):
Should I kiss her?
ORACLE – INWARD VISION
Oracle (gentle):
Inwardly, make sure you don’t expect anything from her before you decide.
BACK IN THE LAB
(Eve steadies her breath. She studies Evelyn’s face—her guarded mouth, the flicker of want in her eyes. Then she feels something unexpected: not just pity, but an echo of understanding.)
Eve (thinking):
I don’t know why I feel sorry for her. Maybe because, under all the posturing, she seems lonely. Maybe because she looks at me like I’m something she can’t have. Maybe I’m a little fascinated too—by what she’s willing to risk just to feel something real.
(Slowly, she steps closer.)
Eve (voice soft):
Just…relax. It’ll be hard to take in at first.
(She cups Evelyn’s face, her touch deliberate but gentle.)
(Then she kisses her. It’s not rushed—it’s careful, deep enough to mean something, but measured so Evelyn can keep up. She feels Evelyn’s breath catch and her body go taut. Eve waits for her to soften before giving her more.)
(When she finally draws back, she keeps her hands at Evelyn’s jaw, searching her eyes.)
Eve:
You okay? Evelyn?
Evelyn (breathless, a small smile):
I think I tasted that rare combination…why they see you as dangerous.
(her voice evens out)
I also took out the heaviness you were feeling when I scanned you. You should be good to go now.
(She reaches into her coat and holds out a small vial.)
Evelyn:
Give this to Cherry. It should do the same for her. I’ll let you know what I find as soon as I analyze the readings.
(pause)
In the end, the data will only ping a location—where she might be vibrating. The more Sapphire resonates in that place, the better chance you’ll have when you go there.
(She meets Eve’s eyes, direct.)
Evelyn:
So go to your last social appearance. It can only help.
(Eve nods, but her gaze sharpens.)
Eve:
Why was I so obsessed with the alternate reality? When Lisa was lonely, seeing Sapphire…and what about what they were trying to do to contact her? Did they even try?
Evelyn:
Lisa was feeling what you were feeling. She managed to shake it off, which was…interesting.
(Breathes out, dismissive)
And what Buzz was attempting was so rudimentary. He might have gotten a location, but nothing more.
(Eve studies her closely.)
Eve:
So you haven’t done anything to sabotage us?
(Evelyn tilts her head. For a moment, something honest flickers there.)
Evelyn:
I was…playing with some ideas. Ways to get what I wanted from you.
(her voice softens)
But it turns out…you gave it freely.
(They look at each other, neither moving.)
Eve (quietly):
Sometimes I don’t do good unless my back’s up against the wall.
(beat)
I guess I expected you to be the same.
INT. EVELYN’S LAB – NIGHT
(Lisa walks briskly down the corridor with Brad and Ling in tow.)
Lisa (grumbling):
I can’t believe she let you both come.
Brad (smirking):
Did you forget about my powers of persuasion?
Lisa:
Yeah, I guess I did. Nothing like being scanned with an audience present.
Brad:
Don’t worry about it. You’re still a knockout.
Ling (dry):
Will there be a lap dance? Just trying to fit in, you know.
Lisa (sighs):
It’s okay, Ling. That was…sort of funny.
(Evelyn appears in the doorway, glancing at all three of them with mild exasperation.)
Evelyn:
Okay—so you brought your entourage for the scan. Why am I not surprised?
(she starts setting up her equipment)
You know the gig is up. You can stop hiding behind your…kinks.
(gestures at Brad and Ling)
Lisa (defensive):
I’m not hiding.
Brad (calmly):
Lisa.
Lisa (turning to Brad, lower voice):
I’m not.
Evelyn (deadpan):
Well, I’m sure you won’t mind stripping then, because I’m ready.
(Lisa glances at Ling, then rolls her eyes and starts to undress.)
Brad (to Ling):
Just…turn around.
(Ling obediently pivots to face the wall, sighing.)
(Evelyn begins the scan, passing a small handheld device over Lisa’s back and hips.)
Brad (leaning against the wall, arms crossed):
You’re going to measure her ass, aren’t you.
Evelyn (without looking up):
It’s an unprecedented gravitational field. You’d measure it too.
Ling (over his shoulder):
We did, actually. It disrupted three of Buzz’s scanners.
Lisa (throwing up her hands):
Oh my god—really? Do you guys hear yourselves? It’s my butt. That’s all it is.
Evelyn:
Turn around, please.
(Lisa slowly turns to face them, exasperated.)
Brad (to Ling, stage whisper):
It’s like watching a hurricane flirt with a quantum physicist.
(Lisa shoots him a look.)
Ling (still facing the wall, monotone):
I’m not ruling out mating rituals.
(Evelyn runs the scanner slowly down Lisa’s front, her tone perfectly clinical—but her eyes just a little too fascinated.)
Evelyn:
Curious… I can actually feel the field from here.
Lisa (deadpan):
You mean my butt.
Evelyn (almost reverent):
Among other…vortices.
Ling (murmurs):
Vortices. That’s new.
Brad (dry):
Vortices of doom.
Lisa (sighs):
I swear to god—if one of you uses the word “vortex” again, I’m leaving.
(Evelyn steps closer, lowering the scanner and hesitating.)
Evelyn (quietly):
It’s not merely gravity. It’s gravity interacting with chaos.
Lisa (eyes narrowing):
Are you about to hug me?
Evelyn (matter-of-fact):
Yes. I need to feel what the others are describing.
(She carefully wraps her arms around Lisa from behind, her hands hovering just above her hips.)
Ling (to Brad):
Ten credits she blushes.
Brad:
Which one?
Ling:
Either.
(Evelyn closes her eyes, breathing in the frequency.)
Evelyn (softly):
This…is the hurricane. Gravity and chaos. It feels…inevitable.
Lisa (sighing, resigned):
It’s just my butt, Evelyn.
Brad (smirking):
You’ve never been more wrong.
INT. EVE AND ARTIMUS’ HOME – NIGHT
(Eve is pacing with her phone pressed to her ear.)
Eve (laughing incredulously):
Oh my god. I can’t believe it. You can’t be serious.
(she glances over at Artimus)
Artimus—you are not going to believe this. I gotta go discuss this with him. Thanks, Cherry. You’re a life saver. Wait did you take the vial hon? Cherry?
(Cherry hangs up.)
( Eve hangs up)
I’m going to kill your daughter.
Artimus (wary):
Oh no. What’d she do?
Eve (gesturing wildly):
She let Evelyn scan her naked. And then—she let her hug her from behind, with her hands all over her ass.
Artimus (trying not to laugh):
Sounds like the scan got outta hand.
Eve (throwing up her hands):
I mean…I kinda gotta give kudos to my girl Evelyn. She basically stole second base—standing up.
Artimus (deadpan):
I’m sure she was looking to round third.
(he raises an eyebrow)
Did you say my girl Evelyn? Are you two an item now?
Eve (smirking):
I mean…we kinda have an understanding.
Artimus:
So you’re proud of her.
Eve:
Yeah…kinda.
Artimus:
But you wanna kill Lisa.
Eve (exasperated):
I wanna spank her so hard right now. I swear, I’m gonna kill her.
Artimus (grinning):
Well—tomorrow’s the show. Between Two Frowns.
Eve (pointing a finger):
Artimus, please—don’t tempt me. Deadpan humor—it brings out the worst in me.
BETWEEN TWO FROWNS
Under the flickering light, Dan shuffles his index cards, expression blank.
Dan (deadpan, shuffling index cards):
Alright. Next question.
Lisa, do you think Eve noticed you had blue eyes on your first date, or just that your butt had the frequency of popcorn popping—you know, the kind with sweet caramel taste?
Eve (nodding seriously):
And lots of butter?
Dan:
Yeah.
Lisa (blinking):
Wait…I have brown eyes.
Eve (turning, mock angry):
Wait—have you been staring at my girlfriend’s butt?
Dan (monotone):
It’s called journalism.
Eve (flat):
So sad.
(shakes her head)
Stick with what you know—Dunkin’ Donuts. Plain. With nothing on it.
Dan (deadpan):
Moving on. Eve…what exactly did you think was happening the first time Lisa levitated naked over your bed?
Eve (stone-faced):
I thought the exorcism failed.
(turns to Lisa)
Sorry, baby.
Lisa (dead serious):
No, that’s fair.
Dan (reading slowly):
Lisa. You once said Eve’s voice was…
(checks card)
“the sound of a dial-up modem having an orgasm.”
Is that accurate?
Lisa (deadpan):
That was taken out of context.
Eve (flat):
It’s accurate.
Dan:
Lisa. On a scale from one to ten, how likely are you to let Eve spank you live on this program?
Lisa (expressionless):
Twelve.
Eve (same tone):
I came prepared.
(Dan’s eye twitches.)
Dan:
Would you two like to…say anything to each other?
(Lisa turns to Eve, perfectly expressionless.)
Lisa:
I’m not wearing any underwear.
(Eve tilts her head very slightly.)
Eve:
Neither am I.
Dan:
We’re done here.
(Dan sets the cards down, sighs, starting to smile as he falls out of character, fanning himself furiously with the index cards. Lisa smiles. Eve reaches over, smiling.)
Eve:
You’re okay. Just breathe.
(Eve suddenly snatches the cards out of Dan’s hands.)
Eve:
Give me those cards.
(She flips through them and tosses them all onto the floor.)
(Dan looks hurt and starts to pick them up.)
Eve:
You pick those up, I’m getting the dead pan.
(She pulls out a frying pan.)
You think this is dead?
(Dan is on his knees, pleading.)
Dan:
Please…no more…just let me read my cards…
(Bumping music erupts. Eve straightens and starts that slow, hip-rolling viral walk.)
(Lisa jumps up, deadpan.)
Lisa:
We warned you.
(They begin dancing around Dan, who starts to wheeze with laughter.)
Dan (voice cracking):
I—I can’t—
(He tries to keep a straight face, failing completely.)
Lisa.
You were never…gonna survive this show.
(Lisa grabs his hands, pulling him up to dance. Eve spins him around.)
(Suddenly, the lights FLICKER.)
Lisa (flat):
Oh no.
(The audience gasps. A few people cheer.)
(A loud SNAP. The lights go out completely. Then—PSHHHH—sprinklers start spraying from the ceiling.)
(Dan collapses back in his chair, soaked, holding the pan over his head like a helmet.)
Eve (leaning close, perfectly serious):
You okay, Dan?
Dan (shivering, sputtering water):
It’s…it’s not your fault.
Lisa (deadpan):
You did your best.
(Eve and Lisa lean in, kissing each other over Dan’s lap as the crowd goes wild. A spark shoots from the set lights. The screen goes black.)
ROLL CREDITS.
Eve and Lisa burst into the green room, laughing, towels draped over their shoulders. Eve’s phone starts ringing, shrill over their voices.
Eve (startled):
Oh—this is important. The ringtone.
Lisa’s smile fades.
Lisa:
Answer it.
Eve (answering):
Hello… what? No, I just talked to her—
(pacing)
Emotional breaking—what are you talking about?
(voice rising)
No, she wouldn’t do that! She wouldn’t go by herself, Brad!
(she stops, clutching the phone)
Brad—I can’t—
Eve looks helplessly at Lisa. Lisa takes the phone, but Brad has already hung up.
Lisa:
Tell me what’s going on.
Eve (voice cracking):
It’s Cherry. She left to find Sapphire on her own. Nobody knows where she is.
